Training Retreat General Information
Memory Bridge is again inviting 12 people from across the U.S. and abroad to join us for our 2017 Training Retreat (June 1 - 6) in Bloomington, Indiana - and we're covering all the expenses, except for travel. Specifically, we are seeking people who share our dedication to ending the social isolation of people with dementia through our learning how to be with them in emotionally and spiritually sustaining ways.
Applications are open to care providers — both professional care providers and family care providers ("non-professional"), therapists who work with people with dementia, administrators, and service providers whose field of service enriches the lives of people with dementia.
The 12 selected participants will receive full scholarships to our 5-day training retreat that will be held in Bloomington, Indiana at the beautiful and contemplative Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center. Scholarships will cover full training tuition, on-site lodging and all meals for the five days of training. The training retreat is co-sponsored by Indiana University’s Center on Aging and Community at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.
The design of the retreat will be based on Memory Bridge's Life Is a Bridge Dementia Immersion Training, an experience-centered learning journey that positions people with dementia in the roles of teacher, guide, and companion. In keeping with that design, participants will meet five times, in person, with their Buddies - the elders with dementia participating in the program.
In addition to the one-to-one and group visits with the Buddies, training will incorporate presentations, facilitated discussions, video case studies, I-Land mapping, literature and films, peer-to-peer and intragroup sharing, drum circles and meditation.
Finally, interested participants will have an opportunity during the retreat to explore facets of the rich spiritual tradition of Tibetan Buddhism through guided meditations and presentations.
